Charlotte's Nursery

I am so pathetically behind on blogging, these are pictures from when we moved Will out of the nursery and let Charlotte move in.  Let's please just forget, for at least a few seconds, that now Charlotte has moved out of the nursery and a whole other child has moved in.  Yikes.

This room was a haphazard attempt to make Will's navy blue walls work for a girl.  Mark gave me the evil eye when I mentioned repainting, and I am wise about picking my decorating battles around the house so navy it was!

I think there is some sort of rule against mixing too many patterns, but I forgot about it when I saw this rug on clearance.  Besides, Charlotte is a wild + creative soul, so I think this fit her just right.

Do you see the scrapes on the wall and bite marks on the crib?!  Palm to forehead...  Yeah...we will never be pictured in any Better Homes + Gardens magazines anytime soon.  Feels like home to me, though, and that's what counts, right?!

My mom made a beautiful triangle quilt for Charlotte a while back - isn't it grand?  I would also like the point out the curtains I found in the tackiest junk mail magazine I have ever seen in my life - BUT THEY WERE FIFTEEN DOLLARS so who cares.

And here is a picture of me doing what I love most.  Mark says "Send help."

Brothers

We've got a mover, folks.  Wes is scooting - backwards - but he's mobile, regardless.  Leave it to Big Brother to coax him down the hall.  Will loves playing with Wes and showing him the ropes.  They have such a special relationship.  Let's all remember this when they are teenagers...  ;)

Alphabet Ocean Sensory Fun

Charlotte and I hosted our preschool co-op last year and scored the letter O for ocean!  I emptied out four of our big tupperware so two kiddos could play at each little station.

The only thing I bought for this was the blue aquarium rocks for the bottom.  They are totally unnecessary, but make it look so beautiful and add to the sensory experience too.  Worth it to me!

This was a pretty independent activity.  I just gave the kids bug nets and asked them to fish around to find letters of the alphabet they recognized - or really to find any treasures!  If time would have allowed, I think they would have played for a full hour.

I dumped in lots of fish-related water toys we had on hand, alphabet puzzle pieces, shells from an arrangement in our bathroom, and sponges from our paint stash.

And PS - Add WARM water.  Cool or cold water will make the kids shiver and want to stop playing in, like, five minutes.  Believe me.  I've messed this up a few times.

Hooray for Alphabet Oceans!

Will's First Day of Preschool

I remember Charlotte needing to have a new backpack, just like Will.  Her wishing she could go to school.  Him wishing he could stay home.  Bribing him with cupcakes if he made it through the whole day without crying.  Sure he'd cling to my leg and freak out.  Stunned when he didn't cling.  He was timid, but okay when I left!  How happy I was to be able to leave him in Miss Becca's class, trusting her completely.  How happy he was to earn his blue-frosted cupcake at the end of the day.
